The PING G20 Driver is designed for all ability levels. External weighting helps launch the forgiving G20 driver with a high, low spinning ball flight for maximum distance and accuracy. Additionally, PING G20 Driver launches shots 0.75 degrees higher than G15, with 200 rpm less spin and 1 mph faster ball speed on center hits, which adds up to five yards more carry and roll.

Can Diablo EDGE Driver be surpassed by G20 driver?

My current driver is Callaway's Diablo EDGE Driver, I am very satisfied with this driver. In my eye, the Diablo EDGE is the best driver on the market. I once had a try Taylormade's R11, and Ping's K15, but I still insisited the Diablo EDGE is better. All in all, we can gain many advantages from the driver. If you want to improve you game, you should keep the driver in your bag.

Ping G20 Iron review by Joe Golf - The Golf Guy

Ping has always made exceptional golf equipment. They are very well known for their irons and putters. They are mostly considered a forgiving brand. Ping still has those great tour players playing their tour spec clubs but their niche is to the higher handicap player in my mind.
Today we will be discussing the G20 Irons by Ping…
When I first saw the pictures of the G20 Irons I thought to myself that this was the G15 with just a new paint job… however as soon as I swung it I know it was different. Now most club fitters will tell you that forgiveness relates to two things… Feel and sound. Ping has always had great sound but some of their irons didn’t have the best feel. Not this one.
Every swing I took felt like the ball was just jumping off the face. Now they are a little stronger lofts than some irons but they are the same as the G20 set. I hit them on a Flightscope launch monitor and picked up 5 yards on the 7 iron between the two sets. For me that is huge. They still have many of the same features as the G15 club… 17/4 Stainless steel frame, the ID8 grip (which I think is the best stock grip from any company) and a lightweight high performing shafts.
The shafts they put in the G20 are a new shaft that is specific to get the best performance for this head only. The CFS shaft is a little lighter than the AWT shaft they have put in the past. At 99 grams on a regular and 109 on a stiff they are following the mold of lighter is longer that many of the driver companies are adopting.
Now I do not really like the color set for this iron… it doesn’t bother me but I think the great minds at Ping could of done a little better job at making it look like a traditional golf club in my opinion.

Ping G20 Driver and Iron Review

This past week Ping released their latest version of their successful G series with the G20 line of drivers, fairways, hybrids and irons. Harvest Head Professional Chad Scott gives his personal review on the G20 driver and irons.

The G20 Driver

What Ping Says: The G20 is for all ability levels, the external weighting of the large, forgiving G20 driver helps launch the ball high with low spin for maximum distance and accuracy. PING’s proprietary high-balance point shaft enables you to swing a club head at more mass with the same speed, generating fast ball speeds at a high MOI, for long straight drives. The G20 launches the ball .75 degrees higher and with 200 less rpm than the G15.

First Impression: The G20 feels lighter that the G15, but in fact the club head is 2 grams heavier than it’s predecessor. This is due to their high-balance point shaft; allowing more mass at the head, but keeping the overall swing-weight down. Gone is the black finish in favor of a metallic gray or graphite colour.  The club sets up very well when grounded and I found it aesthetically pleasing, although I still prefer the matte finish of my R11 to the gloss of the G20.

First Swings: The G20 feels perfectly balanced. I knew were the club head was throughout the swing, but it never felt lagging or too heavy. The club seemed to cut through the air like a knife; a reference to the improved aerodynamics of the club. The performance was outstanding; I hit 5 consecutive drives like it was on a frozen rope and the distance was long. For me, I hit the standard TFC 169D shaft a little high for my liking and could probably benefit from the lower launch/spin TFC 169D Tour shaft.

Pros: Sets up well; looks great; easy to swing and $329 is not as harsh on the pocketbook.

Cons: Only 2 stock shaft options to choose from. Club is still a little plain and boring, but with the success of the G series why change?

Overall: The PING G20 driver is definitely an improvement over the G15 but is just an evolution rather than a revolution. Either way, a large variety of skill levels are going to improve their distance and accuracy with this driver.

The G20 Irons

What Ping Says: With the G20 irons, you’ll hit the ball long but with distance control. Perimeter weighting and a deep cavity design, the 17-4 stainless steel heads are highly forgiving. An elastomer cavity badge provides solid feel and sound while enhancing distance control.

First Impression: The club face has a darker finish than the G15 that helps reduce glare. The club head also had more of a satin finish and not as “rough” as previous versions. Additionally, PING has done a very good job of hiding the wide sole at address; providing a clean, thin look that resembles more of a Eye2 iron than G15.

First Swings: The sound is soft and pleasant, but very solid. You could hit this anywhere on the face and it would feel good. The new CFS steel shaft provided good feel and reaction. The ball flight is high; too high for myself, but that’s what the G20 is good at.

Pros: Great looks, CFS shaft, sound, custom fit options and at $749 in steel shafts for a set, many golfers will be adding these to their bag.

Cons: Not a lot of feedback on shots. Might be too high of a ball flight for some golfers. If that is the case, wait for the new i20 irons next spring.

Overall: Another solid product from a company that invented the cavity back iron.

The ping g20 driver is for all ability levels. The external weighting of the g20 driver helps launch the ball high with low spin for maximum distance and accuracy. Distance of this ping g20 driver is generated with a new version of ping's proprietary high-balance-point shaft technology, which allows the golfer to swing a heavier clubhead at the same speed with a high moment of inertia. The clubface on the 460cc head of this ping g20 driver is larger, creating more forgiveness across the hitting area and the g20's head rotation is neutral, allowing the golfer to deliver the clubface straight at impact.

Some customers have their own feeling after using the ping g20 driver. From the feeling of the customers we can understand ping g20 driver to some extent. One said: tried the ping g20 driver again.  It's definitely longer than my driver.  I hit the stock 9.5 degree with the S shaft again just to see if it was a fluke.  I'm really surprised how much farther it hits the ball than pretty much any other driver at Golfsmith that I've tried.  I hit the Titleist 910D2 and my low/high was 280-295.  The ping g20 driver was 305-330 with around 5 swings.  I'm really shocked by it.  Same launch monitor, same position, same balls, and just different club.  Part of this ping g20 driver is the weight.  The ping g20 driver is a bit lighter than the Titleist.  That has always made a significant difference in my experience.  Dispersion seemed not quite as tight, so there was a price to pay for the extra distance.  I am curious to try it in an X shaft to see if it will tighten up the lines a bit.

I had the opportunity to hit the g20 driver Wednesday, I also brought in my own g20 driver to compare. I hit about a dozen with each. The data on the screen showed the ping g20 driver to be about 4 yards longer with a little tighter dispersion pattern. Not sure if the $299 price is worth 4 more yards. The ping g20 driver felt the same as my g15, what’s your feeling?

Weight saved by thinning the face allowed Ping engineers to redistribute weight to the perimeter and the back flange, which positions the CG low and back to launch the ball higher and longer. Just for these, it can give me the nice feel. So it is better than other clubs.

While the Ping G20 irons maintain the Ping ‘G’ look, they have changed the weighting in the head and modified the feel. Impressive forgiveness remains, but with a better all-round performance. Ping has opted for a lighter finish than in the Ping K15 and the head it is slightly more compact to look down on. There is still plenty of confidence-inspiring forgiveness on show.

Ping could have been more ambitious in separating the look of the G20 irons on the shelf from its predecessor. The cosmetic changes do not reflect the improvements made. Ping’s stock grip provided plenty of grips when tested in both dry and wet conditions. It is slightly thicker than most stock offerings and was an impressive performer. Extreme perimeter weighting within the stainless steel head helps to improve forgiveness and accuracy. This extra weight is found by making the face of the club extremely thin.

The cavity badge is made from aluminium with soft elastomer in the heel and toe. This helps to provide a better feel. The hosel-to-head transition is designed to inspire confidence.

If a higher flight is what you’re striving for, these should certainly make it onto your test list. A careful fitting to find the right shaft is important for golfers of every level. The hallmark of the G family success over the years, this has not been compromised in the latest offering. A superb blend of forgiveness from a head doesn’t feel too chunky.

In terms of feel, this was a big area of improvement that really helped the Ping G20 irons stand out, especially from earlier G5 and G10 models. Lower handicappers will enjoy the feedback.

The Ping G20 Driver – Pure Performance, No Gimmicks

There is a very good reason our # 2 selling driver in the store (Roger Dunn in Santa Ana) for the past 2 months is not white in color…flat out performance. Since I began fitting the Ping G20 driver early in its release I have seen extraordinary performance results. Ultimately, everyone seems to launch the ball higher than their previous driver (on average of 1-2 degrees), given the loft being equal. As a result, we have seen an increasing number of stronger lofts being purchased. What really sets it apart is almost 9 times out of 10 the ball speed is higher and total spin is lower (both backspin and side spin). This translates to more distance through better carry and a tighter dispersion equaling more fairways. We also see smash factor numbers improve, which is how efficiently struck a shot is (ball speed / club head speed) for an overwhelming majority of recreational and aspiring players as well.

How do they (Ping engineers) achieve these results? The story is all about more mass transferred into the ball more efficiently. They added more weight to the head and removed it from the shaft. Then they placed the balance point of the shaft higher, toward the grip end to allow the heavier head to move into the ball at the same club head speed, but producing higher initial ball speed. A lower density Titanium alloy is used to allow more weight to be placed low and deep.
